Belmont Youth Hockey
November 2, 2009
I. Call to order
Brian Quirk called to order the regular meeting of the Belmont Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) at 7:05 pm on November 2, 2009 in the Staff Room of the Belmont Public Library.
II. Roll call
The following persons were present: Jeff Brody, Jim Brown, Jeff Carbeck, Roman Chicz, Curtis Cole, John Curran, Jim Finn, Doug McLaughlin, Steve Nally, Bob Pomer, Brian Quirk, Tricia Reggio and Kim Rocha. Absent from the meeting was Joe Noone.
III. Approval of minutes from last meetings
The minutes from the October 6, 2009 regular board meeting were accepted.
IV. Financial Update
John Curran gave a brief financial report. The annual dues invoices have gone out. All dues must be paid by December 31, 2009. The profit and loss statement and income and expense by month report prepared by John Curran were reviewed. The association currently has a healthy financial outlook.
V. Review of GBYHL Reassignment
The GBYHL realignment of Bantam and Pee Wee teams was reviewed. Realignment for other levels has not yet taken place.
VI. Goalie Development Opportunity
A proposed arrangement with Waltham to provide goalie skills for our goalies was discussed. The sessions would be broken down by age group. It was agreed to move forward with the skill sessions for our goalies.
Tricia Reggio updated the status of the Big Chill event. The first formal planning meeting will be this Thursday, November 5. The concept of including a comedian for the event was discussed. We are awaiting word from the venue to finalize the date.
VIII. PASS Event
We discussed hosting a PASS clinic hosted by the Boston Bruins. Current Bruins players will be assisting. Two sessions based on the age groups preferred by the Bruins will be held. One session for Mite A, Squirt B, Squirt C, and U10 girls. Another session for Squirt A, U12 girls, PeeWee A and PeeWee B. The sessions will be held on Monday, November 9. In addition, BYHA will host a learn to play hockey program for Mass Hockey on Saturday, November 7 at 12:15.
Belmont will host playdowns on Wed., November 4 at the Belmont Rink. Volunteers from BYHA will assist with sign-ins.
X. Photos on the Website
We discussed placing player photos on the website, password protected, for those players who would like to place them with their team roster information. It was decided not to pursue this option at this time.
XI. Learn to Skate Program
A learn to skate program for young children not quite ready for the mite development program was presented. Pete Noone would take the lead on this program and it would be part of the mite development program initiated this year. Skaters will be charged $50 for the first session and $75 for the second session. USA hockey registration will be required.
Finalizing the updates of the association by-laws and guidelines was discussed. Jeff Brody will forward the working edits to the board for discussionat a future meeting.
XIII. Annual Meeting
The next membership meeting will be held in January. The date, and location will be finalized sufficiently in advance to notify the membership.
XIV. Ice Breaker Recap
The ice breaker event and ways to improve it for next year were discussed.
The offering of skills to age appropriate teams on Sunday afternoons during the season was discussed. Teams will be offered skills two of every three Sundays as part of a rotation.
