The Holiday Classic was conceived in 1983 by a tournament committee that consisted of Bob Stoughton, Paul Graham and Coach Dan Kelleher to provide an opportunity for Mite teams to participate in a tournament at a time when none existed for this level of youth hockey. Each team will play a minimum of 3 games, with the top two teams from each division advancing to the Championship game. All games will be held at the "Skip" Viglirolo Skating Rink on Concord Avenue.
One of the unique characteristics of the first 18 years of the Holiday Classic was the fact it afforded the Belmont teams their only chance to play hockey games on their home ice. It's only been within the last several years that ice has become available to play league games at the Belmont rink on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The Belmont Holiday Classic is a catalyst to bring together our entire hockey community through the support of current and past Mite parents. Many people who haven't had a Mite in years lend their support both through physical donations or their presence at the game.
Finally, our thanks go out to Maura and Dan Kelleher whose tireless efforts at every level of this tournament for the past 30 years has ensured continued success and has provided the youth of Belmont with an annual tradition that seems to grow ever more special each year.
