Meeting Minutes
December 8, 2008
I.      Call to order
Doug McLaughlin called to order the regular meeting of the Belmont Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) at 7:15pm on December 8, 2008 in the Staff Room of the Belmont Public Library. 
II.      Roll call
The following persons were present: Doug McLaughlin, Kim Rocha, Janet Liddell, Jeff Brody, Joe Noone, and Mark Shapiro.  Absent from the meeting were: Larry Christofori, Jim Brown, Jim Wooster,  John Curran, Steve Nally, Jim Finn, and Brian Quirk.
III.      Approval of minutes from last meetings
The minutes from November 11, 2008 were accepted with corrections.
IV.      Position Reports
Treasurer
No report.  
Registrar
Kim R. reports another new Mite player and two new U10 girls joined the program.  Concerns and managing large size of U10 team discussd, i.e., extra ice time, occasional movement of some players to U12/U14 teams.  Visa request by USA Hockey for Canadian player in program should be resolved this week.
Coaches
CPR class scheduled for end of the month, early January.  FIrst set of coaches' ratings for players went to coaches today.  Second rating will take place at the end of February and third/final rating will be completed at the end of season.  Tryout data during the team tryout process is the primary data source used for team placement.  Coaches' ratings data along with an objective assessment component conducted by two or three coaches is used to assist team placemet decision making, when necessary. 
GBL
Four BYHA teams are shifting within their divisions.  Changes to be updated by Mark S. on the GBL component of the website.
Girls
Joe N. reports there will be a meeting of the Middlesex Yankee Conference Girls' League on December 11, 2008.  Need expressed for learn-to-skate component of program at the U10/Mite levels.  Will inquire about learn-to-skate offerings through the MYC league. 
Ice/Skills
High school teams now on the ice.  Unfortunately, practice ice for BYHA at the Belmont rink starts at 7:00pm.  Six teams taking turns with late practice ice.  Better ice available at BHS and BU later in the month.  Skills sessions with Don MacNeil ending, next six sessions (to include checking clinic) provided by Team Training.
Photos/Clothing
Team practice jerseys being printed with sponsor information.  The board discussed changing/developing a sponsorship program to better serve the donors and hockey community.
Public Relations
Mark S. continues to encourage teams to submit weekly roundup news items for local newspaper.
Equipment
Coaches’ uniforms/jackets in.  Still selling used equipment at the rink.  Working on procuring goalie equipment.  
Outreach/New Membership
Currently not a lot going on.  Opportunity to reach new membership at town day in the spring.
Fundraiser/Social
Big Chill fundraiser at the Belmont Country Club on February 6, 2009.
Tournaments
Board discussed lack of information for parents regarding tournaments.  Not all coahces award of tournaments,yet tournament opportunities largely coaches' choice, left to them to communicate with parents.    
V.      Other Business:

High School hockey teams no longer able to hold captains' practices (preseason practices held without the head coach) due to insurance restrictions through he Recreation Department.  Dour M. reports BYHA has been approached to help resolve this conflict.  Will check with Recreation Department and Mass Hockey regarding insurance issues and fees.
