Meeting Minutes
March 3, 2008
I.      Call to order
Jim Wooster called to order the regular meeting of the Belmont Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) at 7:10pm on March 3, 2008 in the Flett Room of the Belmont Public Library.
II.      Roll call
The following persons were present: Jim Wooster, Curtis Cole, Janet Liddell, John Curran, Steve Nally, Doug McLaughlin, Kerry O’Donovan, Larry Christofori, Mark Shapiro, and Lisa Pargoli. Absent from the meeting were: John Myers, Brian Quirk and Andy Papathanasiou.
III.      Approval of minutes from last meeting
The minutes from February 4, 2008 were approved with corrections.
IV.      Position Reports
Treasurer
Total income as of February 27, 2008 is $190,820. Total expenses for the same period are $126,036. 
Registrar
Tryouts and registration for 2008/2009 season imminent.
Coaches
Information from coaches’ end of season skater evaluations along with the objective observer assessments is being tallied, should be ready for review in 1 – 2 weeks. A final player ratings sheet for each team will be created, and the objective assessments information will be available to the reviewers to enhance the validity of the tryout process. Board to devise policy regarding use of evaluation data and assessments to bring before membership.
GBHL
Larry C. reports GBL trying to offer staggered season starts. Some teams start season in November, others start in September. GBL wants to start more teams in September, looking for feedback from constituents. Board expressed satisfaction with this season’s starts.
Girls Program
U10-1 team is heading to the State Tournament in Marlboro, Mass this weekend. Other girls’ teams still playing for a few weeks. Girls’ program may see two teams at each level next year. 
Ice/Skills
Belmont rink slated to close March 16, 2008. Playoffs for some teams scheduled after closing of rink, practice ice available in Cambridge and Watertown.
Doug M. reports Mites, Squirts, U-10 and U-12 teams will host “Bring a Friend to Hockey” this weekend. Donated equipment can be dropped off at rink.
Tournaments/Clothing
Lisa P. recommends getting tournament information and options out earlier to coaches next season and working solely with coaches (not team managers) on tournament team rosters. Lisa will organize girls’ tournaments next year.
Public Relations
Mark S. working on informational flier/handout for distribution that directs people to the website. Flier to be available at rink, town day, Champions Sports store. Would like to offer a frequently asked questions webpage, i.e., placements procedures, skills workshops, pre-registration information on the website. Will publicize tryouts dates on website, local newspaper, cable television, as well as in Arlington and Watertown.
V.      New business
 
1.            Tryouts to be held April 6 – 10, 2008. Board coverage needed.
2.            Banquets organized by Susan Myers. Dates set; information will be disseminated via email.
3.            Sledge Hockey World Championship for paraplegic hockey players to be held five days at the end of March in Marlboro, Mass.
4.            Jim W. will address issue regarding coach’s patching requirements with Mass Hockey.
VI.      Next Meeting:
